The mixture of the colors chosen for the restaurant is revealed between the marriage of a classic chromatic favorite and lush, natural materials: pink and wood, which abound throughout.

About the Project

The interior of Rare Pastrami Bar, which specializes in meat dishes, brings together the pink hues of sliced pastrami and the industrial finishes of an abattoir.
Located in the Milyutinskiy Pereulok neighborhood, the 72 square-meter restaurant had previously played host to a French eatery, organized around a large central wall.
We decided to keep this partition during the redesign, dedicating one side of the space to the kitchen and the other to seating for customers.
"The clients wanted a bold new design, something which has not yet been seen in Moscow," Harry Nuriev, founder of Crosby Studios.
This room features corrugated tin wall panels coated in pink lacquer. The pink metal also clads the front of the timber bar counter as well as trims the edges of the dining tables.
Suspended at different angles, Nuriev’s lighting fixtures in Rare are tilted metal discs lacquered in the same star shade of pink as the corrugated metal wall profiles. The sleekness of the furniture and fixtures are harmoniously offset by textured concrete walls and floors with crumbled white marble.
The set of concrete steps with slate-colored bench cushions is installed at the rear of the space, creating further seats for diners. Nearby are a pair of cylindrical volumes covered in white tiles, which conceal the bathrooms.
Apart from the new grey terrazzo floors, all other surfaces are left in their previous state.

What’s unique about it

Rare is a truly unique restaurant. Its aesthetic introduces something new and bold to the Russian and International dining world. Nuriev created a highly Instagramable interior which not only satisfies the client's request, but also represents a distinctive style. The space shows how Nuriev takes risks in creating an atmosphere which not only tells a story but allows customers to feel a sense of comfort while entering.

Rare has many unique features which Nuriev showcases ranging from the two cylindrical bathrooms placed at an angle – which also act as art objects – to the bench made from concreate steps with soft velvet pillows. Nuriev plays with shapes, the circle being his favorite, which is seen through the lamps, tables, and toilet area making a natural masculine interior softer.

Rare features sustainable yet practical materials from the original exposed flooring to the walls. The mixture of the colors chosen for the restaurant is revealed between the marriage of a classic chromatic favorite and lush, natural materials: pink and wood, which abound throughout. Nuriev exemplifies his clean style by optimizing the natural light of the space while combining a touch of beauty through plants which were all collected from local second-hand plant shops.
