Storey provides a distraction-free shared workspace that enables customers to work, network, dine, play, learn and create under one roof.

About the Project

Gensler has been working with British Land to design their new flexible workspace concept, Storey. Located in multiple locations across London, Gensler has provided strategic consultation, project management and interior design services, helping define how the spaces need to function to serve an ever-evolving market.

Storey provides flexible and customisable office space, targeting companies sized between 20-70 people – providing them with the flexibility to brand and adjust their own space, whilst not having to commit to a long-term lease.

It is also marketed to large corporate users who are looking for flexible space or to house a distinct project team with its own identity. Located in existing distinctive and iconic buildings, the spaces embrace their natural environment to provide users with a comfortable, usable, playful and sophisticated experience.

Storey will operate within British Land’s existing London assets, including its Broadgate, Paddington Central and Regent’s Place campuses. These have a critical mass of office customers and offer the ideal environment for ambitious organisations looking to grow.

Working closely with British Land, Gensler helped to define the component parts of Storey, which are reconfigurable according to location and user needs. The ‘spine’ is a modular system that allows for various configurations of enclosed space, so that it can adapt to every company’s needs.

What’s unique about it

With each space, Gensler set out to create a considered relationship between the external building and the experience crafted inside. Each location has been designed with its existing context in mind, but all locations share the same basic principles; creating a powerful arrival experience; generating activity within the shared spaces; and a diversity of spaces to suit all work modes.

Storey is intentionally unbranded. The idea is that clients feel like they are in their own office and feel ownership over their space. By partnering with Gensler, Storey can help clients to customise their layout and design, to optimise their work environment. Storey customers can access facilities traditionally reserved for larger organisations and automatically benefit from the broader campus environment.

With over 7 million sq ft of space across London, customers can find the perfect space. If they need to expand their current workspace or create an additional satellite office, it’s not a problem. The leases are exceptionally flexible, meaning clients can have the space for as long (or little) as they like. Clients also have access into Storey Club; a business lounge providing an extension of the working environment with break-out spaces, a cafe, bookable meeting rooms and event spaces for hire.

British Land curate the spaces both inside their buildings and out, creating vibrant communities with rich event programmes helping customers to attract and retain the best talent.
