About the Project

The concept for Emardental Clinic plays with the dialogue between two types of environments which reflect the values of the clinic.

The public area consisting of the waiting room, reception and transit areas embody a warm, welcoming aesthetic. The winding space with an oak finish of soft tones and curved lines intuitively guides the patient into the circulation and accompanies him while waiting; smooth and soft lighting filter through wooden slats enhancing the warm atmosphere.

By contrast, the work areas such as treatment rooms, operating theaters, sterilization, laboratory and offices, are pristine spaces. Featuring technical, cartesian and resistant materials that are easy to clean, the spaces reflect the rigor and accuracy of the work they do here. Strategic lighting maximizes efficiency while avoiding shadows or glare by combining the natural light filtered through Krion slats, the backlit textile ceiling, and spot lighting in certain areas.

What’s unique about it

A major challenge of this project was creating comfort in a place where people typically do not want to be: a dentist's office.

The strategy to deal with this is to create two very different worlds.

The reception area doesn't feel like dentist office; a warm public area calms the patients with the application of wood, curved shapes and a lot of natural lighting penetrating the wooden slats of the corridor. Occassional indirect LED lights supplement the ample natural light.

The technological and pristine clinic areas – including the operating rooms, laboratory, sterilization room, etc. – are treated very differently. The opposing environment is intended to give confidence, comfort, and a sense of safety and professionalism to the patient. This area carries a clear message: you are in good hands. It features white, high-tech and precise materials, which enhance the natural light and direct LED illumination.

In terms of construction, the main challenge was materializing the curved corridors. The glass was carefully curved and each wooden slat was individually laser-cut to ensure accuracy and save time and reduce costs. The precision in the craftsmanship mirrors the professionalism of the doctors in the clinic.
