Why they’ve been nominated

In our increasingly digital world, branding is subject to change. Curating is becoming the new merchandising and in response, brands are starting to provide content that supports the products they sell. Automaker Hyundai is a case in point. By commissioning experimental design and architecture studios, it has turned its stores into experiences and its brand presentations into engaging exhibitions. For the Hanam showrooms, Hyundai let Suh Architects totally reconsider the goal and programme of a flagship store. For one showroom, the studio conjured a world of exotic destinations within a single space with the use of high-resolution LED panels that showcase various films of life-size landscapes. In another, Suh pulled a more low-tech light-and-mirror trick. And the car brand doesn’t stick to the confines of the showroom alone. Branching out, the company entrusted Atelier Brückner with the design of an immersive and responsive exhibition that takes over the car brand’s entire centre of automotive culture.
