Designers apply the concept of light and shadow in the cinema.

About the Project

Designers apply the concept of light and shadow on Shanghai BFC Bona Cinema thoroughout. The first prominent feature is the logo wall on the left of the cinema lobby. Several rectangular plates made with speckled matte Rojo Alicante marble overlap each other in different directions, just like the form of light refraction.

What’s unique about it

There is a bold usage of speckled matte Rojo Alicante marble all over the ceiling, walls and floor in the lobby. The space is unique in the way that every marble has its own natural pattern.

Pieces of rectangular installations are also generated from the form of light reflection. They overlap each other in three colors and cross the entire ceiling and walls, creating an illusion of 3D installations.

The use of orange and blue colors further extends to the auditorium. The area appears to be more cohesive by mixing in a light brown color.

There are also copper metal installations in the ceiling which some of them are folded into half pointing towards the floor, mimicking the form of light refraction. LED lights are added to their side to maximize functionality.

Due to the fact that movies are often composed of contrasting color while orange and blue are the two most commonly seen colors. These colors also perfectly match with the Rojo Alicante marble.

Although the marble stone is costlier, it can create a natural environment that is durable at the same time. Some of the floorings have installed inlaid metal strips.
