About the Project

In a city teeming with glossy boutique gyms, London’s fitness fanatics are spoiled for choice. Enter BXR London, a rough state-of-the-art boxing gym recently opened in the heart of Marylebone and the latest venue to get anyone´s pulse racing.

Housed in a 1115-sq-m space with generous 6-m-high ceilings, this isn’t an average boxing gym. ‘BXR is a real showcase in the boxing world, reflecting the history, the glamour and the craftsmanship of the sport.’

Little surprise then, that the Anthony Joshua-sanctioned hotspot packs a big design punch.

Bergman Interiors created an unexpected, rough, elegant and industrial chic language using rough concrete panels and a rich blend of backlit dark-tinted mirror. Bronze and brass trim accents along with braded leather screens in a warm cognac colour and handmade surfaces which all lend the space a refined industrial look.

Bergman Interiors' desire to create a theatrical, yet unintimidating guest experience became the underlying design concept behind the gym. Adorning the raw concrete walls, murals by London street artist Ben Slow of boxing greats Sugar Ray Leonard, Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali inject soul into the space.

There’s plenty on offer to members, from top-of-the-range equipment to an in-house clinic, as well as a pulsing sound system that wouldn’t be amiss in an Ibiza superclub. Joe & The Juice has concocted a special menu for the Ringside Lounge.

What’s unique about it

In the world of smart phones; everyone is looking constantly at their screens. Our aim was to create an elegant approachable gym without the expected intimidating gym feel - to connect people together, offer a healthy life style and where to train like a champion.
90% of the world's gym treadmills and equipment let people train in isolation, looking into their screen or onto a TV screwed into the wall. At BXR, people train together watching boxing matches happening in the ring, surrounded by the very inspiring world champion legends Mohamed Ali and Sugar Ray, portrayed on the artsy street art murals.

BXR's zoning was challenging as it was previously a car park over two floors. Bergman Interiors split the journey between lower ground floor with a welcoming friendly and elegant entrance taking guests into a gallery of art inspired by Christie's. Every month the gallery showcases new art, sponsored by the Opera gallery. Changing facilities are designed in high-end materials and a luxurious relaxing feel after a good training session with Joe & The Juice running the lounge.

On the upper floor the designers developed a community where people know each other by name and share thoughts while working their bodies in the boxing ring. BXR is the one gym that has a full equipped clinic that offers solutions for athlete rehabilitation and available also for members - educating them and working on their bodies, healing injuries.

BXR is a true Fitness and Life Style landmark that celebrates the human body, culture, great sport and inspiring art.
