About the Project

Nina Yashar’s multicultural background has allowed her to free herself from any classic definition of style —she has created the most sophisticated associations between modern furniture and contemporary productions — and has pushed the boundaries of this profession to become the most talented gallerist, editor, curator, producer of the business.

I designed "Chez Nina", the very private club opened during the last Salone in Milan, as a tribute to Nina and a celebration to our complicity.
The coloured velvet banquettes and the acid candy glass tables have been designed especially for the space — to contrast with the silk mural geometric landscape produced by English tailor of the homes, De Gournay —
A selection of lights and furniture pieces from Nina’s collection add a layer of sophistication — Gio Ponti armchairs, Martino Gamper’s poufs, Lelli’s floor lamp.
A new experience in Milan.

Wallpaper: produced by De Gournay - drawing by India Mahdavi
Velvet: Pierre Frey - True Velvet collection by India Mahdavi (plains and motifs)
Banquettes, tables & bar: India Mahdavi for Nilufar Gallery

What’s unique about it

This project is quite unusual, as it is a private club as well as a gallery, specifically a private club at Nilufar Gallery Via della Spiga.
It was designed as a pop up, but it is still there.

It opened for Salone del Mobile in April 2018 and embodies the story of a friendship between two women who share a similar multicultural background.
India Mahdavi and Nina Yashar were both born in Iran, left at very early age - and grew up in the US, Germany and France for India and Italy for Nina—and both have a love for multicultural spaces where vintage pieces mix with very contemporary- from Gio Ponti to Martino Gamper, from Viebeke Fonnesberg to Brazilian Terneiro, from Scandinavian Hans Agne Jakobsson to India Mahdavi — which results in rich and sophisticated aesthetics, adding color to the nights and mixing the passed, present and future in a unique harmony.
Chez Nina, is a small space (65sqm) with big intentions- the intention to connect one another, to exchange ideas at a moment where design becomes the center of the world.

Chez Nina became the place to be during Salone.
